POPULAR QUESTIONS

When I work with new clients, they often have lots of questions about how I work or which of my services might best solve their issues.

Here's some of the more common questions I'm asked. If your questions isn't here, drop me a line

The cost of the website depends on many different factors: domain name, hosting, CDN, the type of website, time and finally complexity. Naturally I am not going to quote you £200 for an all singing, all dancing complex website that’s going to take me four weeks to code, develop and test.

All that said though I do wish to give you a fair idea of my fees and what a custom built website will cost you. These are general ball park figures and are not to be taken as gospel:

Costs really vary according to what you want your site to achieve. A simple "brochure" website without much functionality can be as little as £500. A complex ecommerce website will be more like £2000+.

My daily rate is £300.

I hope that this has given you a better idea of what it will cost you. At the end of the day it's my intention to build you a beautiful, responsive, secure and fast loading website that provides value for your investment.

If you have any other questions then do please contact me.

The short and simple answer is Yes. However there are lots of grey areas when it comes to pictures and other media, especially those downloaded off google or other search engines. I could go off on a diatribe about it. Instead of turning this into a long drawn out answer I will simply redirect you to this awesome post about Website Ownership

I hope that has cleared up your queries on this. However if you have any other questions, concerns or queries then please do GET IN TOUCH.

Essentially, no. I am always upfront and honest when it comes to my quotes and I explain all the costs involved, why they are needed, and how they will benefit your website be it a new build or an improved one.

Here is a list of the most common costs involved which don’t include my original quote.

  • Hosting & Maintenance = £30 per month
  • CDN = £20 per month
  • Domain purchase = Varies a .com usually starts at £10 per year
  • SSL = Varies from a couple of pound to hundreds depending on the type

If you wish for me to go into more detail about extra costs and what any of the above does, feel free to drop me an EMAIL and I will be more than happy to answer your queries.

Absolutely I can help you. I have helped many different people from many different countries over the years with their websites. You may be unhappy with your website because it's dated and doesn't look modern. Or perahps it's slow to load or you don't know how to update it.

Let me help. I offer free appraisals and provide honest feedback in easy to understand English with minimum “Tech Speak”.

Simply CONTACT ME and I will usually respond within 24 hours if not a lot sooner.

Put simply ‘Hosting’ is a service that makes your website viewable on the World Wide Web. Without it, your website cannot be accessed by the people you want to attract. With all that in mind, yes, you do need it. Below is a quick four minute video that can explain better than I can.

I offer a VPS hosting package for a monthly or yearly fee with a brilliant company here in the UK called 20i. Naturally, hosting can be quite complicated and is not for the faint-hearted.

You may already have your own hosting, which is not a problem at all because I have over a decade worth of experience working with lots of different hosts, uploading websites, optimizing them for speed and security, and finally setting up domain-based email accounts.

Let me know if you have any questions or queries you wish for me to cover by dropping me a quick email.

Yes, you can and it’s really easy to do. With the exception of simple static sites, most websites I build are based on the WordPress platform.

WordPress is called a ‘content management system’ and allows you to create, edit, and delete new pages, embed various kinds of media and write blog posts. I run masterclasses on how to use the interface and how to keep your website running smoothly. I am not like other developers who abandon you to fend for yourself once the website goes live.

If you want to edit the look and feel of the site by changing things like fonts or images that are used in the theme itself, it is always best to consult with me first. I will always be available to help you and will be happy to make any changes you require.

It really depends on the size, complexity, and many other things. In the ten plus years I have never gone over a date that I have agreed to with any of my clients worldwide and I guarantee that I work a minimum of eight hours a day five days a week and even on weekends when required.

The usual time period for simple static sites is two weeks from agreeing to the contract and deposit being received, to a month or more for more complex websites like eCommerce or Forum types.

I generally deliver well ahead of time though as I have been known to go on twelve hour coding marathons.

A good question which deserves a good answer. There are many benefits as to why you should choose me over a web development agency that can be difficult at times to work with, or another developer. Below I list a few of the main reasons

  • Hiring a freelance website developer like me guarantees a highly competitive price over other developers or agencies.
  • A more personal and professional service is easier for me as a freelancer as I have a lot more time to explain how I build the website and how you can run it.
  • I will not abandon you after the launch of your website. I am always available to consult with going forward. I also provide masterclasses on how to run the site once it’s launched.
  • I usually only take on a couple of projects at a time so I can design and code your website to an excellent standard and not have to rush to finish a project.
  • I make sure that the website gets finished and delivered on time by agreeing to a date before I start on the project.
  • I build websites to current and upcoming standards in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. I make sure I am updated on new and upcoming features and standards to make sure your website is up-to-date and future-proofed.
  • I always want to make an excellent first impression, so I will always reply to your questions and queries in a timely fashion.
  • As a freelance web developer, I rely on referrals and word of mouth to keep my business moving forward. With this in mind, I make sure that you are 100% satisfied with your website and my service.
  • I love working with my clients and my reputation means a lot to me. See what others have written about me on my Facebook page, Google and Trustpilot. You can read a lot more about me on my About me page.

The short answer to this is yes. I don’t offer SEO services per se, but I do technical SEO like adding meta tags and descriptions. I also have a Google webmaster account and I add the finished sitemap to Google, Bing, and Yandex webmaster tools.

After that these search engines will send spiders to crawl your website and add it to their indexes. For a more detailed description have a look at this BLOG POST on the subject.
